Trump Day 1 Israel Invades Jenin, Seizes 90 Hostages
The following is an excerpt from an in depth report on what happened in Jenin during Trump’s first 24 hours. In 2024 as Palestine solidarity activists attempted to demand an end to the slaughter by the US and Israel in Gaza, many supporters of Biden and then Harris would consistently say “It will be worse under Trump” – as if they cared about the Palestinians as they were silent to their slaughter under Biden and Harris.
Well Democrats, here is your chance to pony up and show your concern. Trump is doing it now. Please join this FightBackBetter editor in roundly and clearly condemning this horrendous day one action of Trump. Please insist that united front coalitions challenging Trump policies include demands to end the Israel continued expansion and seizure of West Bank Palestinian land and an end to the genocide, reparations, war crimes trials, etc. in regard to Gaza.
A “cease fire” – this one is temporary and apparently includes an expanded West Bank front is not “an end to the genocide” which is continuing. When you said Trump would be worse I never thought for a minute it was out of concern for the Palestinian people. Now is your chance to prove me wrong – lets unite to condemn and fight back and resist this latest indignation to the Palestinian people and nation. If it will be worse under Trump then we must Fight Back Better and Harder under Trump!
Less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump was inaugurated, Israeli forces launched what they say is a major operation in the occupied West Bank, including a large scale invasion of Jenin. Israeli ministers have suggested the military operations are part of a deal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made with his cabinet to convince them to agree to the “ceasefire” in Gaza.
Trump’s nominated national security team and Israeli officials have been portraying the Gaza deal as one which Israel is not planning to respect. While Trump has been celebrating his undeniable role in forcing through an agreement, he has also indicated he does not believe the deal will hold. Last night, he made a series of statements on Gaza, saying “That’s not our war, it’s their war. But I’m not confident,” adding that Gaza was a “phenomenal location on the sea” and that “some beautiful things could be done with it.”
While 90 Palestinian captives were released in Ramallah on Sunday as part of the exchange deal for three Israelis held in Gaza, over 90 Palestinians have now been detained in the West Bank over the past 24 hours alone. Meanwhile, violence from Israeli soldiers and settlers has ramped up across the West Bank since Sunday. Reporting from the West Bank, journalist Mariam Barghouti speaks to residents inside Jenin as the Israeli raid is underway.
