Patch: Rutgers AAUP-AFT Joins Suit Against Trump Administration for Fascist Targeting of Students Advocating for Palestine
The following is an excerpt from New Brunswick Patch report of March 25:
The lawsuit, which you can read here, was filed Tuesday in federal court. The Rutgers AAUP-AFT, which is the union representing full-time faculty, graduate workers and others at Rutgers, joined as a plaintiff. So have the faculty unions at Harvard and NYU.
The suit was filed against President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristie Noem, among others.
The lawsuit alleges the federal government is violating the First Amendment by stifling free speech that Americans, college students or otherwise, have a right to. In the past month, ICE has arrested and detained several people on U.S. colleges and universities after they engaged in lawful free speech and protest, both protected by the U.S. Constitution.
– New Brunswick Patch Editor Carly Baldwin
As reported, Kristi Noem is named in this lawsuit and it must be observed that NJ’s “son of immigrants” faux progressive – supposed leader of resistance to Trump, US Senator Andy Kim – voted TO APPROVE Kristi Noem – yet he is no where to be found in the fight against this fascist purge against protected free speech and those who exercise it. He made some vague statement trying to justify his support for the cosplay dress up fascist Noem but we do not buy it – we say SHAME ON YOU KIM! You are down on Trump’s and Kristi’s boots! Taste the leather Andy Kim!
Furthermore it needs to be clearly assessed that the NJ legislature, with NJ Democrats overwhelmingly in lead role, is pushing legislation in NJ that is based upon a Trump-ian exec order from his first term to codify as law the IHRA false definition of antisemitism that includes criticism of Israel.
Hats off to the Rutgers union for taking this important action and to Carly Baldwin and the Patch for the excellent report. The rest of us – let’s get busy in fighting to protect our free speech rights in NJ!
