FightBackBetter Condemns McCarthyite Fed Suit Against NJ Palestine Solidarity Activists: DROP LAWFARE CHARGES NOW!
This opinion is my own and does not represent the defendants or any of the organizations that are being attacked by Trump’s Department of Justice in coordination with NJ’s pro-Israel constituents. An Article today at the North Jersey news site has reported civil charges have been filed by the Trump Department of Justice against NJ activists that had protested illegal sales of land stolen from Palestinians out of a synagogue in West Orange.
The basis of the charge as stated by US Attoney General Pam Bondi is fraudulent:
“No American should be harassed, targeted, or discriminated against for peacefully practicing their religion,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Today’s lawsuit underscores this Department of Justice’s commitment to defending Jewish Americans — and all Americans of faith — from those who would threaten their right to worship.”
Nobody was protesting the right to worship – protesters were opposing the alleged illegal and unethical activities reportedly occurring at the Synagogue – the sale of Palestinian land on the West Bank. As North Jersey reported the “the sale of homes in settlements in the occupied West Bank (is) considered illegal under international law. “
There are many factual misrepresentations in the charging document and this editor will not attempt to delineate those issues. As North Jersey reported:
“The politically charged protest in West Orange sparked dueling narratives. Protesters who rallied against the real estate event said they were harassed and assaulted. A protester from Bergen County required multiple stitches after he was pepper-sprayed and bashed in the head with a metal flashlight, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.“
Is the Pam Bondi suit trying to argue that what is considered illegal internationally, the sale of homes from the occupied territories, is a worship activity? Is that what NJ’s pro-Israel crowd that pressured Trump to bring these charges believe and are saying?
Fightbackbetter is not speaking for the defendants or any other organization. But we state the following demands:
Immediately drop the McCarthyite charges from the civil suit brought on September 29 by US Attorney General Pam Bondi against American Muslims for Palestine, Party for Socialism and Liberation and 3 individuals.
Democrats need to wake up to how the Trump administration is trampling legal processes to bring false charges and defend our community organizers from this lawfare attack AND stop working hand-in-glove with Trump to bring legal harm to the best resisters to Trump’s policies.
This demand is for the community: Be careful now in how you report activity of protest as there is an army of fascists pouring through social media looking for crumbs for smear and charging – going forward and be ready to get the backs of everyone that comes under these attacks.
The pro-Israel community of NJ is obviously in tight with the Trump administration to the point where they think they can bring these scurrilous charges. That hopefully will be learned by those in the Democratic Party who allow these opponents of free speech and democracy in the name of Anything and Everything for Israel to set their agenda and meanwhile they are hip joined to Trump in assisting in bringing this lawfare attack on our communities!
