Does Central Jersey remember January 2024, when Democratic Mayor Sam Joshi said he wanted to charter buses to send arriving asylum seeking immigrants back to where they came from? These were immigrants who had come through proper check points at the border, being given parole status.
It seems that Donald Trump is Sam Joshi’s ‘savior’ and is helping the Mayor get his wish. With two of the largest, most vicious attacks on workers on the entire East Coast, one in July and one in August, Edison is becoming the land-of-detention-and-deportation…and Joshi says nothing.
Nothing to condemn the violence of the raids.
Nothing to express concern for families getting broken up. Nothing about the terrorism by the government.
Nothing to warn future workers about the trends that are leading to mass arrests (for example, share a list of bonded warehouses please!)
New Jersey, and Edison in particular, owes immigrants gratitude for the role they play, each and every day, in making ours one of the strongest state economies in the nation.
Governor Murphy boasts about how well we are doing in terms of credit rating. He should boast–and he should give credit where credit is due. Immigrant workers play a huge part in what we share here. They deserve respect, fair wages, safety and protection from their families being broken up. It is NOT to much to ask. To ask for less is dehumanizing.
