Hey West Orange! No “Defiant Activism” is not a new legal thing – Get over it!
The West Orange town hall steps became an art gallery for celebrators of Pride. They decorated the steps by chalking the colors of Pride and other colors to represent inclusion of racial and ethnic groups in the USA currently under attack. That this would annoy the local officials is understandable. However the West Orange mayor has reacted with ad hominem smear and with an attempt to create an apparently Trump inspired false narrative to justify punishment of the perps of the pro-Pride chalking if they are apprehended.
Mayor McCartney of West Orange has attempted to define a fictitious new category and she attempts to proffer the term as some sort of new legal invention. It did not work. She proclaimed the chalking “Defiant Activism”. Clearly her attempt is sophistry.
In order to accept this proclamation without evidence, we have to accept that the new term “defiant activism” is even a thing. It is not. There are no laws against Defiant Activism. There has been no authoritarian effort – until now – to establish a new definition of protected speech as if it is some sort of crime using scary sounding buzz words.
It is MAGA, Trump-ian, authoritarian, showing fascist tendencies to declare guilt and it is especially egregious for someone with vested power as a mayor to parttake in such dangerous smear. The Trump Administration is doing exactly this – proclaiming that we are “Domestic Terrorists”, “extremists”, etc. if we disagree with Trump and MAGA on any of 10 topics. Seems like more and more Democrats in NJ are reaching for MAGA Trump playbook trying to criminalize protected free speech of people with whom they disagree – here are some examples:
NJ Free speech advocates in 2025 protected NJ people from a fascist Israel promoted measure to make it illegal to campaign to end aid to Israel over its genocide and aggressive warfare in the Middle East. The effort was defeated but we face possibility they might introduce it again. Democrats were the lead supporter of the proposed fascist law and they were united with the full MAGA caucuses in both NJ legislative chambers.
Lisa Davis was prosecuted by South Orange based upon absolute fabrications by crooked cops and a crooked prosecution.
Two NJ Assembly members representing Legislative District 16 Freiman and Drulis (both Dems) made a false police report OF ME for a felony – I could have died in prison if their false prosecution effort was successful.
Mayor Mapp smearing the front runner CD 12 Democratic Primary candidate Dr. Adam Hamawy (who saved Rep. Duckworth’s life and repaired bodies in Gaza being killed and harmed by US and Israel genociders).
West Orange Mayor:
Let me get this straight – there were no damages – just chalk that washes off and is often used around schools – so you, the mayor issue a big proclamation of some new offense “defiant activism” – sounds like you are trying to align with MAGA – which declares people “domestic terrorist” and “extremist radical” – and then harms them.
There is no such crime defined as “defiant activism” and making up a scary buzz word to describe people you disagree with is what is called MAGA trump authoritarianism – you are guilty of it.
At most it is a scoff law violation like putting signs on polls – littering violation maybe. Maybe malicious mschief. It hardly merits a false and smearing mayoral proclamation and an attempt to establish a new legal definition called “Defiant Activism”. FAIL!
Democrats want unquestioning support from activists and community organizers but they are echoing Trump-ian fascsist narrative, pushing fascist laws, smearing the good community organizers of NJ and acting like Donald the Pedo Trump in this regard.
You can not have it both ways – out of one side of your mouth telling us to trust Democrats in leading a fight to protect NJ from the authoritarianism, violence and fascism of the Trump administration while at the same time participating in lawfare, pushing fascist laws that destroy free speech and using fake legal sounding concepts to smear those who are dissenting. We are not having it!
