Fort Lee/Englewood/Teaneck, NJ – On Tuesday, March 3 at 10 AM at the Fort Lee Municipal Building at, 309 Main St and today, Wednesday, March 4, at 2 PM at Englewood Town Hall at 2-10 N Van Brunt Street, both sites where Congressman Josh Gottheimer holds weekly office hours and at the Teaneck Peace and Justice Vigil at 4 PM at the Teaneck Armory at 1799 Teaneck Road, opponents of the US/Israel bombing of Iran demonstrated to express outrage at Gottheimer’s public opposition to the Khanna/Massie War Powers Resolution and his support for Trump’s bombing of Iran.
In Fort Lee, about 17 protesters chanted, “Gottheimer don’t you understand? We don’t want a war with Iran!”, “We don’t want another Iraq! But Josh doesn’t care ’cause he’s bribed by AIPAC!” and “Josh, there’s only one solution! Vote for the War Powers Resolution!” and held signs with messages including “No War with Iran! Tell Josh to Vote for Khanna/Massie Resolution!”, “Gottheimer: Try Serving Us Not Israel”, and “Iran Is Not a Threat to the USA – Gottheimer is a Real Threat to the USA.” Protesters also distributed leaflets and collected petition signatures, though foot traffic was limited by the harsh weather conditions including hail. After the demonstration, protesters, who were mostly Gottheimer constituents, lined the halls of the Fort Lee Municipal Building, protest signs in hand, to individually register their complaint and demand with the Congressman’s representative. In Englewood, a smaller group passed out leaflets at the busy intersection of North Van Brundt Street and Palisade Avenue before joining the Teaneck vigil, where 16 demonstrators held signs and banners and leafletted passengers leaving buses. .
On Tuesday, Gottheimer joined Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-1), Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21), Congressman Jared Golden (ME-2), and Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), and Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) in introducing a weaker War Powers Resolution. A day later, the Senate voted down a Tim Kaine-Rand Paul-led War Powers Resolution similar to the Khanna-Massie House resolution.
According to Etan Marbourakh of the National Iranian American Council Action NJ, “Josh Gottheimer has made himself the face of opposing even the most basic checks on Donald Trump’s illegal, unauthorized war. After cheerleading Trump’s strikes on Iran and working with AIPAC and Representative Lawler to attempt to block the Khanna–Massie War Powers Resolution, Gottheimer can’t pretend to ‘respect’ Congress’s constitutional role while he hands the president a blank check for more dead Iranian children and dead American servicemembers.”
“AIPAC stooge Josh Gottheimer, who has taken over six million in campaign contributions from the Israel lobby, is pushing a bogus War Powers Resolution as a cynical ploy to undermine support for the Khanna/Massie Resolution. Gottheimer’s resolution will allow Trump to continue bombing Iran for the next month as part of an illegal war of aggression initiated by Israel that had plunged the entire region into chaos. As far as Josh and his bosses at AIPAC are concerned, with over 1000 Iranian civilians killed in the bombing campaign already, including 165 killed in the bombing of a girls’ school, are not nearly enough,” added Adam Weissman of Teaneck Jewish Alliance,
The Fort Lee protest was endorsed by Bergen for Palestine, Ceasefire Now NJ, Council on American Islamic Relations NJ, Leonia Vigil for Peace and Justice, National Iranian American Council Action New Jersey, New Jersey Peace Action, People’s Organization for Progress, Teaneck Jewish Alliance, and Teaneck Peace and Justice Vigil.

UPCOMING EVENTS

On Saturday morning, the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran, only one of many recent examples of joint aggression in the Middle East. But all across New Jersey, people are demanding an end to the U.S. war machine.
We are holding a rally in the heart of Trenton, where for years, locals have faced killer cops, abusive landlords, and corrupt politicians. Now, the same ruling class has decided to wage yet another war overseas.
We invite all those OPPOSED to the war to join us at the New Jersey State House on Saturday 3/7 at 2:00pm.
NO WAR WITH IRAN!
