Some Palestine Supporters Are Deluding Themselves to Support Kamala

Some outspoken supporters of Palestinians opposing US support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza and increasingly so on the West Bank and also opposed to a possibly wider genocidal war enflaming the entire Middle East are now indicating that they may vote for Kamala Harris for president. Their rationale? Hers is a fresh alternative to Biden’s “joined at the hip” policy toward the Israeli regime’s “ironclad” commitment to the US supported genocidal slaughter of Palestinians.

Others are holding out under the guise of “Uncommitted”. Apparently, they believe that this pressures the Kamala campaign to take steps toward ending the genocide so that she and the Dems can win back some of the votes they lost during the past 10 – 11 months of brutal genocide.

While I respect the hard work these advocates have done to attempt to end the genocide, it now appears to be an act of self-delusion, along with wishful thinking, to suggest that the pro-Palestine movement can gain something by backing Kamala or serving as a pressure cooker, offering conditional support should Kamala take certain steps toward moving toward a let-up of the slaughter.

Why? Since the announcement of the Democratic party candidate switcheroo, the Biden-Harris administration has approved $20 Billion in MORE arms to Israel to support the genocide.

The Democratic platform has expressed “Iron clad” support for Israel:

Kamala Harris, consistent with her past as prosecutor has issued a statement with false pretext suggesting intelligence and police action against pro-Palestine efforts.

But if Kamala Harris’s actions, since she has assumed the role of the Democratic Party presidential candidate have not convinced you, Middle East Eye has analyzed her actual speech to the DNC to show clearly – she is a hopeless supporter of continued genocide.

“I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself. Because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that a terrorist organisation called Hamas caused on October 7, including unspeakable sexual violence and the massacre of young people at a music festival. . . . “As commander-in-chief, I will ensure America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world,” she thundered, later adding: “I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists.” – Kamala Harris from DNC speech

Joe Gill, a writer for the Middle East Eye, responded in an op-ed piece (linked below).

The references to sexual violence and the festival massacre have long been deployed as a way to legitimise Israel’s war on the whole of Gaza, which has continued for nearly a year now.

Meanwhile, Palestinians are raped in Israeli prisons, and Israeli politicians openly say this is justified. Harris, like most US leaders, had nothing to say about it.

She described what has happened in Gaza over the past 11 months as “devastating”, “desperate” and “heartbreaking”. In the lexicon of pro-war liberal politicians, these words are an empty, meaningless facsimile of empathy.  – Joe Gill writing in Middle East Eye

It is past time – we have only 2 months to the election. The uncommitted forces need to commit to something – not a delusional hope that Kamala will be any better than Biden. She is also responsible for the Biden administration policy – she played a most supportive role. An opponent of genocide in her position would have resigned from the Vice Presidency and forcefully dissented. Obviously, that did not happen. She only promises the flow of more blood of the Palestinian people from the River to the Sea, while she continues to use anti-Hamas propaganda that has been debunked repeatedly.

We need to build support for the Jill Stein for presidency – Jill is calling for an end to weapons for Israel to pressure Israel to end the genocide and avoid a wider Middle East War. Abandon the delusions! Take concrete action to put an end to this horrible, gut-wrenching slaughter!
