Extreme Federal Violence – Local Cops Stand by and Watch – Chicago 9/19
Editor’s Note: I try to stay focused on NJ action but am reporting this because it is an example of what is coming to NJ. The ICE terror is escalating here too and communities are organizing stronger fight and alert systems. Chicago is being used by the federal government to normalize state police and military violence against the civilian population. While Trump paused his plan to use lethal force in Chicago as advertised on his juvenile meme, it is clear that USA is pushing toward more toward a lethal response and there was at least one person killed by ICE gunfire in Chicago about a week ago.
We need to understand the kind of struggle ahead. All the Democratic Party in NJ offers is support for more repression trying to create new ways to justify fierce repression – per the proposed IHRA fascist laws that promote forced loyalty to Israel and legal consequnces otherwise. They are not offering any kind of protection to the kind of repression Chicago is experiencing and will soon be on our street corners – we are only getting a taste now.
Support the response networks and organize greater unity and greater understanding of the current crisis we face in our commuities. The struggle is real and the diffiuclt road is the correct path. Wishing on the midterms? Will we even MAKE IT to the midterms?
National Lawyers Guild Chicago Statement Regarding Agents’ Response to Protest in Broadview.
Federal agents unleashed severe violence on people protesting at the Broadview detention facility, and engaged in actions endangering people on the scene.
CHICAGO – This morning, September 19, 2025, federal agents unleashed severe violence on people protesting at the Broadview detention facility, and engaged in actions endangering people on the scene. Legal Observers with the National Lawyers Guild of Chicago (NLG Chicago) witnessed agents using pepper balls and apparent tear gas on all protesters and individuals gathered. Numerous additional dangerous actions were observed, including an agent unholstering his handgun, and a van driven by agents almost running over a protester who had fallen in its path. Federal agents repeatedly and aggressively grabbed and dragged seated protesters, throwing several of them into the street. These actions all appeared to be inflicted by federal agents. NLG Chicago was aware of 3 arrests as of 1:00 pm, but the situation was changing rapidly. Local police were observed nearby and failed to protect civilians from the federal agents’ attacks, but did not appear to participate in the violent acts or any arrests directly.
