This meeting is occurring as this is published. This FightBackBetter editor endorses this call for this important action tonight at this West Orange meeting. Please click to send your own letter to tbe council members.

Dear Michelle Casalino, Asmeret Ghebremicael, Joe Krakoviak, Joyce Rudin, Susan Scarpa, Mayor Susan McCartney,

I am writing to express my strong support for the resolution addressing Islamophobia and Anti-Arab Racism, which was voided from the last city council meeting on January 8th. As a concerned member of the community, I believe it is crucial for West Orange to take a stand against hate and bigotry.

New Jersey has seen a significant rise in Islamophobia since 2023. According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ), In the first half of 2024, CAIR-NJ documented 186 complaints, marking a 118% increase over the same period in 2023. This troubling trend underscores the urgent need for our city to adopt measures that protect and support our Muslim and Arab neighbors.

This resolution is essential for recognizing and addressing the unique challenges faced by Muslim and Arab communities in our city. By adopting this resolution, the council will be making a powerful statement that West Orange values inclusivity, diversity, and respect for all its residents.

I urge you to adopt this resolution at the upcoming city council meeting on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:30PM. Your support is vital in promoting a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone in West Orange.
