Baraka Meet & Greet Monday December 9: Let’s Use Opportunity to Challenge his Silence on Dem Party Clamp Down on Palestine Support

Editos’s Note:
We cannot ignore the fact that, despite the Baraka family’s revolutionary legacy, Ras Baraka seems to be on track for a less progressive New Jersey. Our primary concern is that Baraka has not opposed measures introduced by his own Democratic Party in Trenton, which create the legal groundwork for a police and military crackdown on tens of thousands of New Jersey residents and citizens. These individuals are protesting U.S. support for Israel’s actions against the Palestinian people.

Two such measures, supported by both Democrats and Trump-aligned figures, were voted out of a New Jersey Senate Committee in June 2024. We encourage you to attend this event—not to show support, but to challenge Ras Baraka and demand he take a clear stand against bills NJ S-1292 and S-2937. These fascist measures, introduced by New Jersey’s Democratic Party, falsely equate opposition to Israel’s policies and U.S. support for arming Israel with “anti-Semitism.” They will be used to justify the repression of our protected free speech rights.

Baraka’s opponent in the November 18 election made it a central theme of his campaign that he intends to send police after New Jersey’s pro-Palestine advocacy community. Baraka has not publicly responded to this threat, which suggests he may tacitly approve of his opponent’s plan—until he explicitly states otherwise. Politicians’ whispers are never trustworthy, and we need clear, public opposition to these dangerous proposals.

We need to demand that all of the candidates immediately condemn the attempt to criminalize us due to our humanitarian advocacy for the Palestinian people. Let us use every opportunity to make sure this demand is made when the candidates show up publicly. – FigjtBackBetter editor

South Jersey Progressive Democrats are hosting a meet and greet with Newark governor and gubernatorial candidate Ras Baraka in Collingswood NJ.

This is an opportunity for Pro Palestinian and pro free speech New Jersey residents to put hard questions to a candidate who claims to be a “radical.” Will he demolish the NJ-Israel Commission? Will he oppose anti free speech legislation? Will he work to make NJ the first fully BDS state in the country? Does he understand the link between his domestic program and the international struggle against American lead imperialism?
