Only 14 Congressional Dems Sign Letter Against Trump’s Fascist Student Nab, Watson-Coleman Shares Letter

NJ Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman is not listed as a signer but she did share the letter from 14 congress members protesting the fascist nab of Columbia University former student and protest leader Mahmoud Khalil. Rep. Watson Coleman’s sharing of this letter is welcomed and it is possibly the only sign of life among NJ Democrats on this issue.

Her twitter posting thus far has not seen too much activity. Aside from her sharing of the congressional letter, NJ democrats are dead silent on this issue. (Ras Baraka did speak at a protest of ICE facility expansion today (3/11/2025) in Newark and we are reaching out to see if he addressed the ICE nab of Mahmoud Khalil specifically.)

Another sign of life is the US Senate Judiciary Committee – Democratic Members who have raised expansive questions about the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil. NJ’s Cory Booker sits on this committee but he has yet to raise his voice on twitter about the situation. He needs to speak up now!

The general Democratic Party silence is a clear message to the community leaders across NJ who are taking lead on many of the attacks of the Trump administration and who include in our social justice concerns Palestine advocacy, that the NJ Democratic Party is in lock step with Trump fascist crackdown against pro-Palestine advocacy, Rep. Watson Coleman’s voice notwithstanding.

How about some other Democrats including Assembly candidates prove me wrong and step forward to say you have our backs as you invite us to join struggle against harms of Trump and fascist DOGE style Musk! Meanwhile we know the score with NJ Democrats support for IHRA and we know who is complicit in sending the Trump fascists of ICE, pro-Israel vigilante groups, a zealous West Orange prosecutor, smear artists and lawfare practitioners just waiting for Democrats to hand them the weapons to come for us.
