Bennet Zurofsky Esq. Joins Call to Stop NJ Complicity w/ Trump’s NSPM-7, Announces Solidarity Singers Performance @ Nov. 12 Newark Event / Other Performances – WE WILL NOT COMPLY!
NSPM-7 Commentary by Bennet Zurofsky, Esq. from Solidarity Singers announcement, full announcement follows::
. . . next Wednesday, 11/12 at 4 p.m. in Newark when we will rally in front of FBI HQ in Newark against Trump’s National Security Presidential Memo 7 (NSPM-7), which unleashes all Federal Law Enforcement and Military Agencies against those of us who organize and work against the imposition of fascism by declaring us to be supporters and perpetrators of violent domestic terrorism based upon our lawful Constitutionally protected speech and protests. The second is an Anti-Fascist Holiday Sing-Along at the Puffin Cultural Forum on 12/7 at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, November 12, 4 p.m. – GIG – STREET PUBLIC HEARING: NO NJ COMPLICITY W/ NSPM7, corner of Centre Place and McCarter Hwy (Rte 21), Newark (directly across McCarter Hwy from the NJPAC/Center Street light rail station). You can find the text of NSPM7 at https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/09/countering-domestic-terrorism-and-organized-political-violence/ and details of this event at https://fightbackbetter.com/njjttf-nonspm7collabs/. We will sing some rousing anti-fascist songs and I will also be one of the speakers. The objective of this rally is to convince the NJ Attorney General (or better yet the Legislature) to adopt a guidance similar to the one he has promulgated regarding ICE prohibiting NJ State and Local law enforcement from cooperating with this Presidential Order requiring the collection and consolidation of records to enable a law enforcement crackdown on anti-fascist, anti-MAGA protestors. The rally is across the street from the FBI HQ in Newark, but that is merely symbolic as the FBI is not the direct focus of the demo. NSPM7 is the leading edge of AI-aided secret police enforcement of the fascist putsch, I am glad we can be part of public resistance to it. We will not comply! – Bennet Zurofsky Esq
But first, WE HAVE A GIG THIS SATURDAY!
Saturday, November 8, noon – GIG – STAND UP FOR OUR PLANET RALLY FOR THE CLIMATE SUPERFUND ACT, Johnson Park in Hackensack, 452 River Street (Corner of River Street and Anderson Street) (I am told there is ample parking in Johnson Park). Paula is one of the principal organizers of this event, which will actually start in Teaneck and then walk/march across the Hackensack RiVer to Johnson Park where we will sing. I have now prepared the songsheet and Paula will be bringing copies to the rally. Please note that Paula has written two new verses for Do It Now which we will premiere on Saturday.
Here is the organizers’ call for participation:
Right now, New Jerseyans have an opportunity to respond to the climate crisis and make NJ safer and more affordable, and that’s the proposed NJ Climate Superfund Act. This major climate legislation would make the fossil fuel industry pay for the cost of the climate crisis.
Our communities are strained under the cost of storm cleanup, climate mitigation, and skyrocketing insurance policies. With this bill, NJ can shift these rising costs onto the industry responsible and recoup 50 BILLION dollars to make our communities stronger than the storms ahead.
This bill must pass by the end of the legislative session in January. So we are holding a big march and rally just after the election to call on our legislative leaders and Governor Murphy to prioritize this bill’s passage. Our communities can’t afford any less. Join us: http://bit.ly/standupforourplanet
11:00 AM – Meet at Sagamore Park in Teaneck at 11:00 AM. This park just underwent a major renovation with the installation of a stormwater detention tank to help divert flooding that had become routine. This is an example of the kind of project the Climate Superfund Act can help fund to make our communities safer.
11:20 AM – The march will leave Sagamore Park and travel 1.4 miles down Cedar Lane, ending at Johnson Park in Hackensack.
12:00 PM – Rally at Johnson Park in Hackensack – 452 River Street, Hackensack (Corner of River St and Anderson St)
Those who don’t wish to participate in the march can go straight to Johnson Park for the rally.
We hope you will join us! Don’t forget to RSVP: http://bit.ly/standupforourplanet
Tuesday, November 11, 6 p.m. – REHEARSAL – As usual, we will be in the Social Hall of the Reformed Church of Highland Park (19 South 2nd Ave., Highland Park, NJ 08904 – parking in rear). Pizza, etc. at 6, singing at 6:30. There will be a Zoom link but in-person participation is greatly preferred. Our two new gigs make attendance especially important. The Puffin gig is all ours and we have to freshen up our holiday repertoire.
Monday, November 17, 10 a.m. (we will be singing at approximately 12:15 p.m.) – GIG – CLIMATE SUPERFUND RALLY & LOBBY DAY, Statehouse Annex (145 West State St, Trenton 088608). We need to push the Legislature to pass this bill. This should be the biggest Statehouse Rally yet for the Superfund Bill. Bill McKibben has just been announced as the principal speaker.
Tuesday, December 2, 6 p.m. – REHEARSAL – We will be in the Quilt Room rather than the Social Hall, otherwise everything as usual. We have two gigs, including our Puffin Cultural Center Singalong concert, coming up right after this rehearsal. Please do your best to attend.
Friday, December 5, 6 p.m. – UNCONFIRMED GIG – NEW LABOR GALA, this will be at a new location this year, the Hungarian American Social Club, 233 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, please note the change so you don’t end up at the Labor Ed Center lost and alone.
Sunday, December 7, 4 p.m. – GIG – ANTI-FASCIST HOLIDAY SING-ALONG, Puffin Cultural Forum, 20 Puffin Way, Teaneck. We are the only act (and it will be a paid gig). Not exactly the 30th Anniversary Gala I am still hoping we might be able to have at Puffin sometime in 2026, but it should be a lot of fun. We have a large number of holiday song parodies that we will have to choose from and update in order to get ready, so please come to rehearsals to make it a great show.
Tuesday, December 16, 6 p.m. – REHEARSAL – This is our last scheduled rehearsal in 2025.
Other gigs will certainly materialize. Please mark your calendars with everything in this email and watch this space for more.
Please try your best to make it to all of our Rehearsals and Gigs.
Bennet
