Becky Holloway LD6 Assembly Candidate Defends NJ’s Free Speech Rights!
I strongly support the right to free speech, including advocacy for Palestinian rights and participation in global justice movements. State agencies and institutions must not censor or penalize individuals or groups for engaging in peaceful political advocacy, including criticism of government policies, whether domestic or international. I oppose A3558, the so-called “IHRA Antisemitism” bill, because it conflates legitimate criticism of Israeli government actions with antisemitism and threatens to chill constitutionally protected speech. LD 6 is a Democratic Party stronghold and there is little danger of a Republican flip of Assembly control in 2025 given the nearly 20K margin in the 2023 Assembly contest. Because of that wide margin there would be little usefulness of an independent challenge. Fortunately there are two primary candidates who have strong positions suppporting free speech:
There is a Democratic Party primary contest. Incumbent Louis Greenwald is on the bill and he was also a lead sponsor of the bill that increased the petition requirements to run for office so he is not a big fan of free speech or democracy. His partner Melinda Kane as a Camden County commissioner spearheaded the adoptoin of the fraudulent IHRA false definition of antisemitism for Camden County.The Fulop supported candidates Becky Holloway and Kevin Ryan confirmed in the CAIR Action NJ candidate survey their oppposition to IHRA so supporting them supports our free speech fight. Voters of LD 6 are advised to connect with candidates Holloway and Ryan to seek common ground. An independent candidact in this LD would not be overly effective because of the wide margin the Democrats held in the 2023 elections, a margin of over 19K.
