Veep Pick Announcement of Shapiro to Serve Harris as IDF Watch Dog Over US Policy – Tuesday Aug. 6 Philadelphia Announcement is Clear Signal that Shapiro is the Planned Pick
It certainly appears as if Kamala Harris is about to pick pro-Israel fanatic Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro as her presumptive vice presidential running mate. The announcement is set for August 6 in Philadelphia. Shapiro has usually been listed first in the media conjecture of whom Kamala will pick. There is little possibility that she would insult Shapiro by announcing another candidate in Philadelphia. Shapiro, then, looks like he will definitely be her pick. While this editor does not possess proof of this – there is no other reason why the announcement would be held in Philadelphia.
We have already expressed our concerns about Shapiro at FightBackBetter when consideration of this possibility was initially reported. He has played a key role in Pennsylvania supporting legislation that would penalize universities by canceling their funding if they divest from financial ties to the genocide in Gaza or even boycott any product due to its connections to Israel. Of course much of Israel’s exports is war-related: weapons, surveillance, information technology, population control, containment facility technology etc. so such laws essentially mandate university participation in creating and adding to bloodshed, promoting torture, participating in political persecution and various other nefarious purposes. In effect, universities would be mandated to invest their portfolio in such death- producing industry if the bill Shapiro supports is implemented in Pennsylvania. Shapiro also supported the quasi-forced resignation of U Penn former president Liz Magill over false accusations of anti-Semitism over her handling of anti-genocide activities on the U Penn campuses.
The lines between the US government and the Israeli government are already blurred with US resources being poured into genocide and war carried out by Israel. In addition, Israel continually admonishes the US to end protected free speech for those who critique US support for Israel, demonstrating an avid “anti-Semitism – disloyalty to Israel” conflationism. Adding a promoter of Israeli narratives justifying genocide and a broader Middle East War sitting in close proximity to the presidency will only increase Israeli influence on US foreign and domestic policy. The pro-Israel narrative justifies any act of Israel as part of its right to “self defense” and to “exist”. The Harris-Biden administration has clearly subordinated US best interests in support of Israel’s genocide objectives, over the past 10 months. This move of appointing Shapiro as the Veep candidate further cements Israel’s ability to direct US policy.
Hatem Abudayyeh, the national chair of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network opposes choice of Shapiro:
Hatem Abudayyeh, the national chair of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network and one of the lead organizers planning to march at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, said he considers Shapiro’s possible selection among the worst possible outcomes of the Democratic vice presidential search.
“Somebody like Shapiro would be an absolute disaster since he essentially has made it seem as if the Palestinians don’t have any rights to freedom or self-determination or anything,” Abudayyeh said. “He criminalizes our community as a whole and our protest movement.” NBC News
