BREAKING: CAIR Says ‘Gaza Belongs to the Palestinian People’ After Trump Says U.S. Will ‘Take Over,’ ‘Own It’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said “Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people” after President Trump said the “U.S. will take over The Gaza Strip” and “own it.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people, not the United States, and President Trump’s call to displace Palestinians from their land either temporarily or permanently is an absolute non-starter. Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the entire Muslim world have made it clear that this delusional idea is unacceptable.
“If the Palestinian people were ever somehow forcibly expelled from Gaza, this crime against humanity would complete the Israeli genocide of the Palestinians on their own land, spark widespread conflict, put the final nail in the coffin of international law, and permanently scar our nation’s international image.
“If President Trump wants to make history with some sort of grand peace deal, he must start by accepting that the way to make permanent peace is to end the Israeli occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.”
Last month, CAIR responded to President Trump floating the idea of ethnically cleansing Gaza by moving millions of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan “delusional and dangerous nonsense.”
Last year, CAIR welcomed a detailed submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war on Gaza.
Also last year, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.
