Where Should the Food Protests Be? AT THE SUPERMARKETS! Where the Food Is! – Breaking, Newark SNAP Protest Sat Nov 1 3:30pm
BREAKING:

Fund SNAP, not ICE 🗣️ New Jersey demands the use of state emergency funds to cover the over 800,000 people in NJ that will lose their SNAP benefits on Nov 1st due to Trump’s continuous government shutdown. We won’t let our people starve and have essential services like Medicaid and SNAP be cut while ICE continues to be funded to terrorize our immigrant communities, and while our taxes continue to fund war and genocide abroad in Gaza! Let’s stand in the streets and organize together to fight against Trump’s billionaire agenda that puts profit and imperialism before the needs of the people!

The announcements have gone out throughout NJ local municipalities – the Federal Government is not allowing the funds allocated to feed SNAP beneficiaries during a government shutdown to be expended for that congressionally approved purpose. The SNAP benefits are not flowing and 40 M Americans including 830,000 NJ citizens and residents, almost 9% of NJ’s population face immediate food insecurity. It does not seem likely that the Murphy administration has a plan to provide the food on an immediate basis. NJ OAG Platkin has rightfully filed legal action to demand the SNAP funds be released but no plan has been announced to bring food to the people who will face immediate food shortage emergencies on and after November 1. 2025.
IF there is not some miracle within the next couple of days that releases the funds – NJ has an emergency on its hands unlike any we have encountered – deliberate government action to begin to starve close to 1M NJ people. Silence is not an option – mass mobilizations are the option.
This can be practice for all of the calls for general strike. The food supplies are at supermarkets – with ready for consumption food. A very legitimate demand from NJ could be:
All supermarket chains operating in NJ must donate a percentage of their food products to food distribution efforts. The percentage shall be determined by the amount of food needed to prevent hunger among NJ’s 830 K SNAP food recipients.
We can focus protests at the supermarkets. NJ OAG can figure out how to relieve the chains from the liability fear they will raise – perhaps with an inspection regiment that can assure the donated food is unexpired and edible. There can be other touch points to protest – anyone supporting the SNAP cuts should be uncomfortable in public and offices of the responsible parties, agencies, elected officials should also be inundated. But where the food is – is where there is potential for immediate remedy to prevent immediate health and safety dangers from the manufactured forced starvation – so large food outlets should be targeted.
That is an intial proposal – what do others think?
Let’s call this proposal “food for thought” for now!
It is almost like – to quote a Christmas song in this macabre way – with forced hunger crisis right now:
ITS GETTING TO BE A LOT LIKE GAZA! EVERY WHERE WE GO! They passing IHRA to take our rights away . .
Forcing folks to starve – their depravity is hard YOU KNOW!
