New controversy is surfacing in NJ around Governor Sherrill’ suggestion of creating a portal for community members to submit videos of ICE activities to NJ police authorities. It might not be in the best interest of community and could expose us to prosecution and harm regardless of the intention of Sherrill in making the suggestion. We have a statement Guy Citron, who came uo just 5K vcotes shy in his bid for NJ Assembly in LD 23 in 2025. He has raised the idea that the videos coming in through Sherrill’s portal could be used to create NSPM-7 cases or harmful “disruption” operations. NJ Gaza cease fire supporter and veteran NJ community organizer Lisa Davis has warned, based on her own experience, that giving videos to police could get you yourself prosecuted – you can read how that happened to her and her warning. Also we have an important piece by Rev. Seth Kaper-Dale about challenging companies and individuals doing business with deadly inhumane ICE operations in NJ – this editor is working on bribhging together a report on the many ways NJ communities are boycotting, demanding severance of connection, divestiture and other measures to oppose the ICE death, torture and inhumanity machine.
There are reports of several NJ high schools walking out by the 100s to protest ICE terror. El Pueblo Unido has announced a serties of Responder team traininhg. Philadekphia Mass Protest Demands Sheriff Stop Collaboration Pictures by Joe Piette
Over 150 NO ICE activists gathered at the entrance to Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal’s office Feb. 3 to deliver thousands of petitions critical of her office’s cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement terror squads at the city’s Criminal Justice Center.
The petition, drafted by No ICE Philly and signed by more than 5,400 Philadelphians, calls on Sheriff Bilal to “end ICE’s campaign of terror at the courthouse.” The petition delivery comes one day after No ICE Philly and other immigrant justice organizations (including Juntos, Asian Americans United, and ACLU PA) met with Sheriff Bilal to present suggestions to keep people safe at the CJC. The sheriff did not commit to making any changes but agreed to explore options to prohibit ICE from wearing masks inside the courthouse and loitering in the courthouse lobby.
The activists gathered today to celebrate the meeting, while simultaneously demonstrating that they intend to hold Sheriff Bilal to her promises until their demands are met. Lenore Juarez of Juntos provided context about the CJC’s connection to ICE abductions. ICE has abducted over 114 immigrants outside the CJC since January 2025, according to Philadelphia immigrant rights organizations. Aniqa Raihan of No ICE Philly spoke to the crowd about yesterday’s meeting with the sheriff, making it clear that while the group is encouraged by the sheriff’s pledge to consider their demands, they will continue to hold her accountable to keeping immigrants safe at the CJC. Erika Nunez, also of Juntos, recited specific, collective demands from the groups, including requiring that officers entering the CJC wear identifying badges and do not cover their faces and clarifying that only a judicial warrant is a valid federal warrant. Elena Emelchin Brunner, of AAU of Asian Americans United discussed the “ICE OUT” legislative package introduced by Councilmembers Kendra Brooks and Rue Landau, intending to keep Philadelphians safe.
