NJ Dems Call 7/24 Emergency Session to Escalate Trump Repression in NJ – Pausing Summer Recess to Ram Thru IHRA Fascism – WE MUST WITHHOLD VOTES FROM SHERRILL AND ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES / INCUMBENTS WHO VOTE FOR / SUPPORT IHRA – SJ Transportation Link to 7/24 Session
Though the NJ legislature is in summer recess – an emergency session has been called for the NJ Assembly to hear legislation that will lead to the criminalization of opposition to US support for Israel policy and of Israel as anti-Semitic. This move by the NJ Democratic Party legislative leadership at the same time that there is an all out war of terror being waged by the Trump Administration targeting immigrants and opponents of US policy supporing Israel’s genocide in Gaza shows that the NJ Democratic Party is tilting in favor of the massive repression being brought upon NJ and the nation by the Trump administration.
The Democrats are “Handing US Off” to the Trump administration – those of us who oppose US support for genocide by targeting NJ’s opponents of genocide for repression.
Stopping this fascist legislation from becoming the law in NJ has been a priority of FightBackBetter since early 2024. The combined efforts of many forces in opposition is the reason why these laws have not been pushed through – all of NJ’s powerful pro-Israel lobby and advocacy groups have been frustrated by our combined efforts to block the fascist IHRA bills – but they are now calling in all their political favors and offering financial support for advancing the careers of politicians in both parties – trying to get these IHRA fascist bills through. Is it working? It could be because it is quite unusual to come out of summer recess like this.
OUR RESPONSE MUST BE TO MAKE CLEAR THAT PASSING IHRA BEFORE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS WILL RESULT IN THESE ACTIONS FROM FREE SPEECH SUPPORTING VOTERS:
VOTERS WILL NOT SUPPORT SHERRILL IF THIS BILL PASSES
VOTERS WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY ASSEMBLY INCUMBENT WHO VOTES YAY,
VOTERS WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE WHO IS NOW SILENT ON THE EFFORTS TO PUSH IHRA!
On Thursday, July 24th at 11 am in Trenton, NJ, the NJ Assembly will hear legislation which adopts the IHRA definition of antisemitism which conflates criticism of Israel policy with antisemitism. This means that criticism of Israel policy could lead to legal harm to NJ voters, citizens, residents and visitors. Plan to join and testify against it, if you can.
