Don’t You Want to be a FightBackBetter Author?
Fightbackbetter is an advocacy news site, micro focused on supporting the news and information needs and amplifying the voices of the pro-Palestine efforts throughout the state of NJ. Fightbackbetter is not entirely limited to that micro focus and it has branched out to national issues, the student repression in the spring of 2024, the elections, national developments that effect NJ’s pro-Palestine efforts, etc. But we try to keep to the micro focus so as to not be spread too thin.
The site is owned by this editor and reporter, Bob WItanek and I manage the expenses and work effort. We do have a set of author volunteers who write for, gather informatoin, provide pictures and videos and otherwise develop content. Currently it is strictly volunteer meaning that there are no expenses or stipends offered. There are some proposals being considered but it is not anything that is immediate.
Why are authors needed?
The amount of news and information that is generated by the diversity of NJ’s opposition to genocide is tremendous, On top of that, monitoring developments, in Palestine, in Washington DC, in Trenton and elsewhere that impact our NJ efforts – the effort is huge to cover all of it. This editor handles as much as possible and there are several other authors who regularlarly provide content and others that have done so one or more times.
What if my time is limited?
FightBackBetter’s collaborative process accounts for the tremendous challenge everyone faces just for mere survival and also the many commitments to struggle we already have in our lives. So authors would start up at their own pace and determine how much effort they can offer and it could ebb and flow. Becoming an author provides the opportunity to offer content but does not demand you to – you would figure out how to prioritize it but we would not be dependent upon you.
What exactly is an author?
Author is a type of user in the WordPress nomenclature. From the news site perspective, author is more generally defined as website content provider. It can include offering pictures, writing articles, gathering announcements from Instagram and other platforms to republish here, formatting press releases and other provided content, calendar maintenance, other content providing tasks.
We definitely could use help monitoring NJ’s Palestine beat in Instagram (and on other platforms) and getting announcements and reports from Instagram to FightBackBetter. Folks who like to take pictures at protests or events, can drop the pictures to us and if they are motivated write a brief (or longer) description of the action that can be the article about the action at the events.
Opinions, calls to action, proposals about what sorts of activity or directions the efforts should take, heads up about repressive laws or genocide funding, etc. – if it relates to Palestine or the struggle against genocide, particularly as concerns New Jersey, then we want to try to cover it.
Organizations and other collective efforts could benefit from having a team author account as it would help your activities circulate futher beyond your current networking. As the audience grows it will be even more effective. It takes about 3 minutes to post an event once you have all of your details, basically a title, picture and body (article or details of event) – together.
