In a quick hand shuffle from the bottom of the deck, NJ’s Democratic State Committee picked Nellie Pou (who was the least favored candidate to replace the recently deceased Bill Pascrell, according to a CAIR-NJ survey) as the Democratic Party candidate for NJ CD-9. Pascrell had been the congressional representative for decades, dutifully supporting Israel with U.S. House votes. Paterson ranks second in the US in the number of Palestinian residents in a U.S. city. Evidently, support for Israel is the highest consideration in NJ’s Democratic Party as explained in this recent FightBackBetter article- more important, even, than electability. Nellie Pou has announced a grand opening of a campaign headquarters on Main Street in Paterson- rent of which is covered by AIPAC. Indeed, Pou had quietly accepted an AIPAC endorsement at the end of September. This comes as many Paterson residents have expressed anger and grief toward the U.S.-Israeli genocide against Palestine. AIPAC, the Israeli war lobbying group, has recently come under fire for its gargantuan spending to oust anti-genocide members of Congress. This has been done in order to benefit the zionist occupation and facilitate its ethnic cleansing of Palestine. (This article continues after link.)
The issue was discussed among marchers at the end of the October 6th march in Paterson, commemorating Palestinian (and other) martyrs – after a full year of mass U.S.-Israeli slaughter. There was an overwhelming sentiment was that the grand opening event for this AIPAC campaign office should be protested.
The idea of a protest has also been floated on Instagram and the idea of a protest is being supported widely. One respondent has stated:
“It makes no sense whatsoever to have someone who’s endorsed and paid out by an organization such as AIPAC that has also supported the Genocide. Make it make sense, please?
I’m hoping though, that on the 12th Oct. there can be many that rally to oppose this AIPAC endorsed official who should not set up her headquarters in Paterson, NJ” – Paterson area opponent of Israel genocide, commenting in Instagram
FightBackBetter joins Ben Taylor, candidate for 9th District who supports Palestinian freedom and an end to genocide in calling for a “NOT WELCOME IN LITTLE PALESTINE” protest of the grand opening event. Taylor has been a vocal opponent of AIPAC and the two major parties. He claims that Democratic party bosses chose to actively betray Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab Americans in the 9th District whenever they could.
