GI Resistance to Trump’s War on His Own People Begins
GI resistance to US war has traditionally been key in all of the movements opposing war and much has been written about the role of GIs in opposing the Vietnam war. Every war since there have been active duty GIs as well as veterans who served in those conflicts at the forefront in denouncing the destruction. The Palestine genocide most famously – Aaron Bushnell an Airforce active duty soldier perished in self immolation in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington DC – and said “Free Palestine” as he burned to death.
Now only days into Trump’s deploying troops to assist in the fascist DHS / CPB/ ICE attacks on the most vulnerable immigrants in our community and violent repression of those who are proteting the ICE terror – US active duty soldiers are coming out and speaking truth to power. Below are two presentations from active duty soldiers who are denouncing the threats to unleash military terror into our cities against our own population and the ICE terror the administration has unleased.
WE NEED TO VIEW TROOPS SEPARATE FROM COPS WHEN FACING OUR REPRESSION
We need to cultivate good relations with the GIs including the resisters. I have seen protesters trying to talk reason to cops at protests and I have to say I believe it is a waste of time. They are getting paid well to do nasty anti-people work. The GIs on the other hand – National Guard probably thought they would mainly help with hurricanes and disaster – now they are expected to possibly murder children on their own streets. The GIs can be turned against our common oppressors – we need to extend friendship and support. If the troops turn – game over – so lets figure out how best to Support the Troops by Opposing Their Deployment!
