Dr. Jill Stein Rallies Behind Green Party’s “The Green 13” in New Jersey: Championing Palestinian Rights

On July 20, 2024, Dr. Jill Stein addressed the Green Party of New Jersey’s State of the State event, rallying support for “The Green 13,” a group of Green Party candidates who successfully made it onto the ballot. These candidates offer an alternative for voters disillusioned with the dominant parties’ policies on Gaza, healthcare, and immigration, among other issues.

Richard Siegel, a Jewish former independent congressional candidate from District 5, also made a significant announcement. Siegel, known for his activism against illegal land sales in the West Bank, declared his withdrawal from the race. He pledged his support to Beau Forte, the Green Party candidate for District 5, amplifying the unified stand against the injustices in Palestine. Siegel’s recent video exposing illegal land sales in synagogues across the U.S. and Canada has garnered attention, solidifying his commitment to the cause.

Dr. Stein, a two-time Green Party presidential candidate, emphasized her commitment to ending the conflict in Gaza. She promised that, if elected, her administration would halt any further aggression towards Palestine from day one. This message resonated deeply with attendees, reflecting the growing frustration with the current administration’s foreign policies.

Robin Brownfield, a member of “The Green 13,” echoed the sentiment of injustice in Palestine. She stated, “Not in our name,” highlighting that many Jewish people share this perspective. The Green Party candidates aim to offer voters a choice that aligns with their values, particularly on critical issues like international human rights.

Christina Amira Khalil, the Green Party senatorial candidate, assured Dr. Stein during her speech that the party is dedicated to securing her place on the ballot. Khalil emphasized the urgency of gathering signatures to ensure that Stein, the only anti-war, climate-focused, and grassroots presidential candidate, is represented.

The Green Party faces significant challenges from the Democratic and Republican parties, which have historically opposed third-party ballot access. Despite Dr. Stein securing three times the required signatures in Nevada, her candidacy has been contested by the duopoly. This resistance is particularly notable from the Democratic Party, which, despite its proclaimed commitment to democracy, has actively worked to exclude third parties from ballots, mainstream media, and debate stages.
